DRIFTWOOD RESIDENCE

Our client tasked us to refurbish and decorate their beautiful family home on a prestigious golf estate. To ensure some continuity, we incorporated a few of our client’s treasured existing furniture pieces into our design.  All the other furniture items were custom designed and manufactured in carefully selected fabrics and materials.  The style of this home is modern glam.

ENTRANCE HALL
The starting point of our design, the entrance hall allowed us to set the tone for the overall project. To open up the space and allow in more light, thus creating a larger feel to the area, we designed and installed a large window pane gold leaf mirror.

LIVING AREAS
The living areas were decorated using furnishings that included rich, jewel-toned fabrics in deep navy, aubergine and gold, creating a very warm and inviting feel. The ceilings were wall papered in a soft-textured, deep antique gold paper which reflects just the right amount of ambience when the lights are on in the evenings.

KITCHEN/SCULLERY
Because the kitchen is the heart of the home and forms part of the open plan living area, Cheryl designed the kitchen and scullery with careful consideration.  She chose a stylish black finish for the cabinetry and the gold knurled handles adds a touch of opulence.  The large island has a marble look stone top and mitred, seamless waterfall sides, and is stationed to be the perfect place for the family to gather.  The kitchen is both practical and functional, being part of the open plan living area that allows the design to flow glamorously as it sweeps into the designer gold and white pendants that add decorative lighting to the island.  The kitchen is practical, functional and aesthetically breath-taking.

BAR
To give the bar its own unique character, stunning jewel-toned custom-made bar chairs, hanging pendant lights, deep-toned charcoal walls and a wall-papered ceiling with a touch of iridescence were used to create a modern, relaxed and exclusive vibe. The newly-designed shelving in black metal posts and oak shelves perfectly offset the glassware and liquor bottles, making it functional as well as pleasing on the eye. The leather-panelled wallpaper on the front of the bar counter adds a distinct touch of charm.

BEDROOMS
Each bedroom has been given its own identity, using custom-designed, individual furnishings and wallpaper. However, even with this individuality, the flow and style of the home is continuous and seamless.

The main bedroom, en-suite and personal dressing room was completely gutted and re-designed into a space that is both luxurious and functional.  The custom-made headboard, covered in plush, soft velvet, is flanked by walnut shelving that displays beautiful round objet d’art illuminated by soft LED strip lights.  The hanging pendants, above each oversized pedestal, add another source of lighting. The wall paper behind the headboard adds just the right amount of pattern and colour and ties the entire feel of the room together, aligning with the other fabrics and materials used.

The new main en-suite is designed to feel like a relaxing spa with its free standing bath, large shower, and island in the centre of the room that showcases a crystal chandelier overhead. The large doors with soft sheer curtains ensure privacy.  The textures of the herringbone wall tiles, along with the marble-like floor tiles and wallpaper, add a lot of depth and style.   The quality gold mixers, shower roses and fittings work beautifully in this space. Cheryl made sure to design this area with tons of closet space as a main bedroom can never have enough storage.

The TV is housed in the ottoman at the end of the bed, and lifts up and out when needed via its remote control.   Comfortable seating, a stunning black dressing table and beautiful artwork completes this space that exudes glamour.

STUDY
The study has a large mural of old books that creates a stunning backdrop to the desk and newly re-upholstered seating. It’s a private space where one can sit quietly and focus on work or have a business conference call and still feel at home.  It enables the perfect work from a home scenario.

OUTSIDE
The patios have new furniture with a custom made swing on the front porch, pots filled with lots of greenery and strings of fairy lights making it the perfect place to be on a beautiful summer’s day/evening.  It’s superb area for relaxing with a glass of wine and a good book, or simply dozing off.

This house has been given a completely new look, inside and out, and the family occupying it absolutely love its redesign.  And that, ultimately, is the greatest reward for us as designers.
